What is Affordable Care Act/Marketplace Health Insurance?

The Affordable Care Act (A.C.A.) of 2010 also referred to as Marketplace insurance, or Obamacare. The ACA provides insurance to many people who might not have been able to get coverage before, or improved coverage for those who are considered underinsured based on previous plans available to them.

The A.C.A. offers a Marketplace where consumers can select more affordable health insurance, while also providing cost-sharing Subsidies and/or Advanced Premium Tax Credits……essentially a tax credit to help pay premiums for coverage to households with incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty line.  The program also requires coverage be made available to persons with pre-existing conditions including pregnancy at no additional cost.

The A.C.A. can be a terrific program for you but might seem daunting.  You may be asking “What exactly do I qualify for?” or “How do I ensure I choose the best coverage for the most reasonable price?”

In Florida, individuals can enroll directly through www.healthcare.gov, call 800-318-2596 or work with a local agent/broker such as Cornerstone Insurance.  There is NO additional cost to you for working with an agent/broker! We have over 10 years of experience with these types of plans.  You get personalized service and expert advice on the plans and coverage you are entitled to and eligible for. There is no risk or obligation in contacting us to find the A.C.A. health coverage for you or your family. Reach out today to discuss plan options.

Enrollment Period

The annual open enrollment period for Marketplace insurance plans is typically November 1 through January 15 of the following year. This is when anyone eligible for A.C.A. coverage may enroll in a health insurance plan.  Outside of open enrollment, you might qualify for an SEP (Special Enrollment Period). Certain life events can qualify you, such as moving, getting married, having a baby or losing employer health coverage. Contact Cornerstone Insurance to see if you’ve got a qualifying life event for a special enrollment.
